Past Educational Psychology Forums

HISTORY

The Educational Psychology Forum began in 2008 following an observation by Professor John Hattie at an international European educational psychology conference in 2007 that New Zealand had the largest contingent of educational psychology researchers of any country at that conference. This showed that educational psychology was a thriving discipline in New Zealand yet there was no conference dedicated to promoting and presenting educational psychology research. Professor Christine Rubie-Davies set about hoping to change that. Hence, the first Educational Psychology Forum (EPF) was held in Auckland in 2008 and has been held annually around the country since then.
Through the years of these Forums, the integration of educational psychology practice and research was evident, and alongside research, the number of educational psychologists working in multiple contexts within New Zealand was growing. The increasing interplay between research and practice, impact and influence, by both researchers and practitioners was foregrounded. For the 2020 12th Educational Psychology Forum, this aspect is celebrated.
