Christchurch Earthquake Appeal |
| In the aftermath of the Christchurch disaster I am trying to contact as many osteopaths as possible; no matter who they may be.
This is not about membership. It's about an unprecedented event that requires some unprecedented action. Some of our profession have been hit hard by this. At this stage we have at least one member of the OSNZ who is missing. The omens are not good. We need to do something to help. Aid agencies are doing what they do best in providing for immediate needs, but the future is uncertain. We have no way of knowing how some of our colleagues are going to fare in the not too distant future, and nor do we really have any real idea as to what they are going to need. To this end, OSNZ have set up a "disaster fund". This is a "stand alone" account, purely for the sole purpose of collecting money for distribution to those severely affected by the earthquake. The intention is to provide some tangible help on an 'as required' basis. Any application or request for assistance will be considered and swiftly acted upon to the best of our abilities. My intention in creating this is that it be administered through common sense and human decency. Once the money runs out (if there is any!) then it’s gone. We will do our best to help out in as fair and equitable manner as we can. If any money is left over it will remain in secure care should it ever be required again. To be absolutely clear, I don’t care if those in need are a card-carrying member of any association or not. We are a profession and we need to take care of those who are our brothers and sisters in need. This fund is intended for them and their immediate families. Donations can be sent by DC (direct credit) to this bank account: Osteopathic Society - Earthquake Fund 06-0501-0847568-02 Or by cheque sent to Lydia at OSNZ, PO Box 647, Rangiora 7440, New Zealand Please be aware that this is our highest priority. We have been in contact with Stiofan at OCNZ and we are in complete accord on this. Please give generously. It's the least we can do. All the best to you all. Richard Moon President OSNZ |
